Sečovlje saltplains is a working saltpan and nature park, so come prepared to walk on wooden boardwalks and gravel paths, bring sun protection, comfortable flat shoes and binoculars for birdwatching. You can join a short guided tour or visit the small salt museum to see traditional salt-making and buy locally harvested sea salt and spa products, but tours and parking fill up in summer so book or arrive early and consider public transport from nearby Piran or Portorož. Best times are spring and autumn for cooler weather and migrating birds, while summer shows active harvests and more crowds. It’s an incredible spot for wildlife photographers and reflection chasers. Salt fields can get incredible colors during the sunrise and sunset and when they dry-out they look almost like desert. Many birds live there and if you are lucky you can catch some deer, pheasants or rabbits too. If you have telephoto lens make sure to bring it here. Do not attempt to fly a drone there because it’s a natural park and also there is an airport nearby. Respect the wildlife and do not walk outside marked paths.
