Vereda do Fanal is a hiking trail that goes through the original Laurisilva forest on the island of Madeira. This forest is a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site and is home to many rare and endemic species of plants and animals.

The trail starts at the Paúl da Serra plateau and ends at Fanal, where there is a small volcanic crater and a reserve of peace and rest. Here you can admire the centuries-old trees and the beautiful views of the surrounding landscape. The trail is about 10 km long and has a medium difficulty. It is one of the most beautiful and interesting trails on Madeira.
Trail Fee: From 1 January 2026, a €4.50 fee per person applies to this trail. A reduced rate of €3 is available when hiking with a certified local guide.
Advance booking of a time slot is required for all visitors, including residents and children. Reservations and payments must be made online via Simplifica Madeira.
