Australia’s got a bunch of pink lakes scattered around, thanks to a special type of algae, and they make for epic Instagram backdrops. Lake Bumbunga, in the Mid North of South Australia, is a standout gem that’s been a hotspot for salt harvesting since 1881 and has become a must-see tourist attraction. The lake’s vibrant pink shimmer, especially against a clear blue sky, looks like it’s been pulled straight from a surreal painting. A cool feature of this lake is that it’s very shallow around the edges, so you can walk quite far out into it without even getting your legs wet, perfect for a leisurely stroll amid those vibrant colors.

At the lake’s heart, you’ll find the quirky "Loch Eel Monster" sculpture, which adds a playful touch to the scenery. If you’ve got a drone, this is the perfect spot to send it up and capture some breathtaking bird’s-eye views. It’s a totally free attraction, so you can soak up all that pink goodness without spending a cent. Oh, and there’s a free campsite right next to the lake, great if you’re arriving late or just want to spend a bit more time soaking in the area. It doesn’t have many facilities, just a toilet, but it’s perfectly adequate for a night under the stars.
