bericht van Kieran - Exploring Scotland

Wallace's Cave in Auchinleck, East Ayrshire, is an 18th-century grotto that may have been enlarged from a pre-existing cave. It features impressive masonry work with rib vaults creating a cross-like shape inside. The cave, reached by a narrow path and rock-cut steps, is believed to date back to around 1760 and is associated with Scottish independence hero Sir William Wallace. Access to the cave is now hazardous due to the condition of the cliff edge path and the vertical drop into the River Lugar. Other Wallace's Cave sites exist across Scotland, each with its own historical significance tied to the patriot's legacy.
