bericht van Kieran - Exploring Scotland

The Glasgow Necropolis is a Victorian cemetery located on a prominent hill east of Glasgow Cathedral in Scotland. Established in 1832, it was one of the first cemeteries in Britain to allow burial for profit due to the growing population and declining church attendance. With around 50,000 individuals buried here, the cemetery features impressive monuments and sculptures, including the iconic statue of John Knox at the summit. The layout resembles a park, with paths winding up to the top where many grand memorials stand. Known as a "city of the dead," the Necropolis is a historic and peaceful resting place that offers a glimpse into Glasgow's past.
