After leaving Paihia hikers will need to walk to Opua and take a ferry to cross the Waikare Inlet. The ferry runs from Opua to Okiato and costs $2 for walk on passengers. Hikers/walk on passengers do not need to book in advance.

Grab a take away or ice cream in a nearby cafe while you wait for your short journey across the water.
