Cave Stream Scenic Reserve is an amazing and unique destination, situated in Canterbury, New Zealand. It's feature of interest is a 594-metre-long cave system which twists and meanders through pitch darkness. In addition to being a beautiful and peaceful place to visit, Cave Stream also has deep historical significance, being the site of both Māori occupation and European exploration. The surrounding landscape is full of limestone bluffs and karst topography, including sinkholes and terraces which were formed many thousands of years ago. Here visitors can embark on a variety of short walks and admire native vegetation like tōtara, pāpāuma, and kōwhai trees. There is also an abundance of invertebrate fauna and home to a rare arachnid species - the Cave Harvestman.
