Évora is known as Portugal's city-museum, listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The city is the capital of Alentejo and is approximately one-and-a-half hour away from Lisbon by car. Its origins date back to several thousand years before Christ, but it was under Roman rule, in the 1st century AD, then named Liberalitas Júlia by Julius Caesar, that Évora gained relevance. One day is sufficient to visit the historic center of Évora and its main attractions.

To explore Évora, one must be prepared to walk and to get lost in the labyrinth of narrow medieval alleys. Another tip is to experience the original Alentejo cuisine and discover local handicrafts. Several restaurants and shops can be found surrounding the Praça do Giraldo ("Giraldo Square") area.
