Höllentalklamm Gorge, located at the foot of Germany's highest mountain, the Zugspitze, is a stunning natural wonder in Bavaria. This wild and narrow gorge offers a thrilling hiking trail that follows the Hammersbach stream as it carves through the rocks with roaring waterfalls, narrow tunnels, and footbridges. The season typically runs from the end of May to the end of October.

Start from the large parking lot in Hammersbach (fills up quickly on weekends). It’s about a 1-hour hike to the entrance. The admission is €7 for adults.

Right after the entrance, there’s a small museum about the gorge’s history, and a small restaurant for quick refreshments and snacks. Walking through the gorge takes around 30 minutes. Expect water dripping from the walls and ceiling, and prepare to get wet! The path is good to walk but can be slippery, so sturdy shoes are a must.

At the upper end of the gorge, you should continue to the Höllentalangerhütte in about 45 minutes – a mountain hut with great food and fantastic views of the Höllental valley.
