The Rhine Gorge is a 65-kilometre stretch between the towns of Koblenz and Rüdesheim in Germany, famous for its stunning beauty, cultural heritage, and importance in transport. It was made an UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2002 because of its incredible features such as the tall, steep cliffs along the banks, the terraced vineyards growing on the slopes, 40 hilltop castles scattered throughout the valley, and the unique ‘Loreley’ rock formation. Visitors to the area can explore the wild wilderness of the gorge with numerous hiking and biking trails available, discover some of the old villages dotted along the banks, take part in the exciting annual firework displays at Sankt Goar and Koblenz, or cruise the river by boat and marvel at the stunning scenery.
