Lake Oeschinen is my absolute favourite mountain lake in Switzerland. It's a stunning, deep blue and ice cold alpine lake nestled in the Bernese Oberland of Switzerland. It is part of the Jungfrau-Aletsch-Bietschhorn UNESCO World Heritage Site and is an unforgettable sight to behold.

The lake was created by a massive landslide and fed through a series of mountain creeks and underground rivers. The average depth of this crystal clear lake is 34 meters (112 feet) with its deepest point reaching 56 meters (184 feet).

In the winter months the lake freezes over, allowing visitors to partake in ice skating on its surface! For those that would rather stay off the frozen frost, fishing and gondola rides also await.

You can access the lake by a short gondola ride from Kandersteg, followed by a roughly 20 min hike down to the shore. Alternatively, you can also hike up from Kandersteg, which takes about 1:30 hours.

If you're up for a refreshing swim, don't forget to bring your swimsuit and a towel. It's cold but you will feel so vital after a dip.

Seraina's Tip: If you're into hiking, don't miss out on the Lake Oeschinen - Heuberg hike. It takes roughly 3 hours and presents you with views of the lake and its surrounding mountains that leave you breathless.
