We normally like to steer clear of the tourist 'hotspots' as we can often find them crowded and over-rated, but Robin Hood's Bay is one of those places that lives up to the hype in our opinion and is not to be missed if you're in the area.

A picturesque fishing village set between steep cliffs and sandy beaches, the village itself is a maze of tiny streets, red roofs and traditional sandstone cottages. You could easily spend an afternoon here exploring all the nooks and crannies. Some may recognise it as the location for some scenes from Bram Stoker's Dracula or from films 'Phantom Thread' and 'Wild Child'.

While we'd recommend visiting any time of year, we visited in winter meaning parking was easy and free and there were no crowds to contend with making it a great option for the colder months. It's worth noting the walk to and from the car park is steep and might be tricky if someone has difficulty walking.

Top Tip:

Check the tide times and aim to arrive at low tide. As the sea retreats it will leave lots of rocks pools and sandy stretches perfect for fossil hunting or crabbing with little (or big!) ones. Crab nets and buckets can be bought from the local shops.
