Now this is a real lesser-known gem of a place. And one that leaves you feeling a world away from it's actual location which is in the Bristol Channel off the coast of north Devon.

The tiny island of Lundy, is teaming with wildlife... here puffins outnumber people 15 to 1 while over 200 grey Atlantic seals call this place home making it the perfect spot to come swim or even dive with them - a really special experience you won't forget in a hurry.

Whilst it's very feasible to do a day trip, it's also possible to stay on the island which boasts 25 exceptionally unique places to stay covering all different budgets. Choose from a large classical villa, a government house, an old lighthouse, a church or a simple camping site... there really is something for everyone here.

As well as a rugged landscape, dramatic cliffs and an abundance of wildlife to discover, Lundy is also a fascinating place for history buffs. With a wild and lawless past, Lundy's history is full of eccentric characters and quirky stories, from crazed pirates to renegade knights... there are plenty of historic buildings that still remain today including the remains of Bronze Age settlements, a medieval castle, a Georgian lighthouse and a Victorian church.

If you're debating a trip here we really suggest you go for it - one of the best things we've done in the UK!

Getting there:

There are a number of different boat services you can take to Lundy depending on budget and whether or not you are planning a day trip vs a longer stay. Wild Frontier Charters for example takes you to swim or dive with seals and provides wetsuits and snorkels etc before dropping you at the island, whereas MS Oldenburg is a larger boat that simply shuttles you too and from Lundy. These set off from either Ilfracombe or Bideford in North Devon.
