Tucked behind Grand Îlet in the cirque of Salazie, Mare à Martin is a place that feels suspended in time. It’s a reflective pool where the silhouettes of Gros Morne, Cimendef, and Morne de Fourche shift across the water as light and cloud change. On still mornings, before the wind rises, the surface acts like glass.

The area isn’t developed for tourism, which is part of its charm. You can park nearby, walk the quiet road, or head straight onto longer trails. Several hikes begin around here, including the Roche Écrite via Grand Îlet and the more obscure Piton Bé Massoune. If you're not walking, it’s still worth the detour from the Salazie road just for the atmosphere — cool air, grazing cows, and birdsong in the distance.
