Cascade du Grand Bassin is one of Réunion’s most photogenic waterfalls — a tall, single-drop fall that plunges into a tranquil basin surrounded by cliffs and tropical greenery. It’s located just below the roadless village of Grand Bassin, which itself is only accessible via a steep, stepped trail from Belvédère de Bois Court.

To reach the cascade:

• Hike 2 hours down to Grand Bassin village from Bois Court

• Then continue 20–30 minutes further along a forest path to the base of the waterfall

• The trail is rocky and slippery in places — wear solid shoes

Once there:

• Swim in the natural pool (cold, but safe and clear)

• Enjoy one of the most peaceful picnic spots on the island

• Surrounded by tree ferns, mossy rocks, and mountain silence

Most hikers combine the waterfall visit with an overnight stay in a local gîte, such as Chez Dany or La Cascade (Mme Nativel) — making it a perfect slow travel micro-adventure.
