bericht van Where The Kids Roam

Todaiji is already impressive enough with its massive Buddha statue and being the world's largest wooden building, but the real fun is watching people attempt to squeeze through that famous pillar hole! Legend says if you can fit through it, you'll reach enlightenment in your next life - and let me tell you, watching people decide whether to try is entertainment in itself.

Some bigger folks would take one look and walk away, but my wife and kids went for it! There's something hilarious about watching people contort themselves through this hole that's supposedly the same size as the Great Buddha's nostril. It becomes this weird mix of spiritual challenge and impromptu gymnastics show.

Pro tip: Don't chicken out! Yes, it looks impossibly small, but it's one of those "when in Japan" moments you'll talk about forever. Plus, if you manage it, you've got enlightenment in the bag for your next life - not a bad deal!

And oh yeah, there's also the largest bronze Buddha statue in Japan and the world's biggest wooden building to check out..
