Description:
Hveragerði is a small geothermal town about 45 minutes from Reykjavík, famous for its steaming vents, greenhouses, and the Reykjadalur Hot River. The town sits on a geothermal field, which powers local greenhouses that grow vegetables and flowers year-round. The main attraction for visitors is the hike to Reykjadalur Valley, where you can bathe in a naturally heated river surrounded by mountains — a unique Icelandic experience. In town, you’ll also find geothermal bakeries, where bread is baked underground using hot earth, as well as spas and swimming pools.

Price:
Walking around Hveragerði is free. The Reykjadalur Hot River hike has no entrance fee, but parking at the trailhead costs about 500 ISK ($4 USD). Local spas and swimming pools charge around 1,000–1,500 ISK ($7–11 USD), and guided hot spring tours from Reykjavík usually cost $80–120 USD per person.
