My favorite spa's and hot tubs
3 dagen

What you'll do

If there's one thing typically Icelandic, it's sitting in a hot tub. So, do like the locals do and find yourself a spa, hot tub or swimming pool and enjoy the geothermal water!

Day 1

Here you will find all of the spa's you could visit. I like some more than others, so read the description to see which one is my favorite.

1

Geosea - Geothermal Sea Baths

spa

Relaxing spa with seaview

One of my favorite lagoons / spa's. The view here is absolutely breathtaking. And you might even spot a whale!

2

Forest Lagoon

spa

Swimming in a forest

Iceland is not very well known for their forests, but close to Akureyri there is a hot pool / lagoon in a forest. You can enjoy the warm water, the sauna and maybe even an alcoholic beverage surrounded by trees.

Definitely a relaxing thing to do while in the north.

3

The Beer Spa

spa

Swimming in beer

Iceland is known for all of it's hot pots. Soaking in warm water is one of the specialties of Icelanders. Soaking in beer is the next level.

In The Beer Spa you get to enjoy some benefits of beer you might not have known about. Because some of the ingredients of beer are actually really good for your skin and hair. So sitting in a bath of beer is not only relaxing, it's also good for you!

And next to your very own beer bath, there's also a tap to drink actual beer from. So enjoy the beer in every way possible!

The restaurant at the beer spa is also really nice in case you want to combine your stay at the spa with some great food.

(But also remember it is illegal to drink and drive in Iceland, the max is 0,02% alcohol allowed in your blood, and the fines are immense).

4

Mývatn Nature Baths

spa

Myvatn Nature Baths

Relaxing in the warm water with a good view is always a good idea. Myvatn Nature Baths is the Blue lagoon of the north.

And in my opinion, this is the better option, because you'll have a great view over lake Myvatn and it is usually a bit less touristy than the "real" blue lagoon.

5

Vök Baths

spa

Vök Baths

A warm hot tub in a cold lake. Only in Iceland! But this makes it perfect for a cold dip (Wim Hof style) in between warming up in the hot tub.

I really like this place, so make sure to pay it a visit when you are in the east.

6

Blabjorg Spa

spa

Spa in the east

After a nice hike or a long ride, it's always good to relax in a hot tub / sauna. Luckily they have both here!

7

Krauma

spa

Krauma

This is one of my favorite spa's in Iceland. It is quite small, but because of that it also does not feel very crowded. It is "quite far" from Reykjavík so maybe that is way it is less busy.

I really liked the atmosphere here and there is also a really nice restaurant on site.

8

Secret Lagoon Iceland

spa

Secret Lagoon Iceland

This is the oldest natural pool in Iceland. And therefore it is popular location for many people.

It’s a nice spot to relax when traveling around the Golden Circle.

Pricewise it is a bit in between a swimming pool and a fancy spa. But kids under 14 are free, so that makes it a nice family activity!

9

Husafell Canyon Baths

spa

Husafell Canyon Baths

This tour starts from Húsafell Activity Centre. From there a guide drives you to the Icelandic highlands. From there you go on a walk towards these hot tubs.

10

Sky Lagoon

spa

Sky Lagoon

At the Sky Lagoon you can relax, enjoy the warm water and the view. There are 3 options to choose from, but I would go for the "Pure" package. The seven-step ritual is what makes this lagoon special, so you don't want to miss that one.

11

Blue Lagoon

spa

Blue Lagoon

The Blue Lagoon is currently closed because of an eruption in the area.

The Blue Lagoon is one of the most famous spots in Iceland. It is very close to Keflavík airport, so if you are only in Iceland for a short amount of time, this is something that you can definitely put on your list.

If you are in Iceland a little longer though, I would recommend going to some of the lesser known spa's. It is not that the Blue Lagoon is not nice, I personally just think there are nicer places to enjoy the warm water. It is very busy and very touristy here, so you might want to have a place that is a bit less crowded.

If you've always wanted to see the Blue Lagoon: go for it! If you just want to relax and enjoy life in a hot pool, maybe check out the other options around the island! :)

Disclaimer: There is a possibility another eruption will happen again in this area and maybe it will be closer to the Blue Lagoon this time. At the moment there is no way of saying if and when it will happen. But I just wanted to mention it. If you are someone that doesn't like to take risks on their holiday (like me) then you probably want to know about this before booking a ticket.
