Fjords, glaciers, waterfalls – and hidden gems most travelers never see.
Hardanger has it all, but most visitors only scratch the surface. Here's my full 7-day route with the best hikes, scenic drives, places to stay, and experiences to remember.
Start your journey with a scenic drive from Oslo and check into Halne Fjellstugu.
"Halne" means "halfway" – perfectly placed between east and west. Stay in a cozy cabin by the lake. If you arrive early, take a short hike or try fishing in the peaceful mountain surroundings.
Spend the morning hiking up Halnekollen or enjoying the high mountain air.
On your way to Lofthus, stop for lunch at Dyranut fjellstova and be sure to visit Vøringsfossen Waterfall – one of Norway’s most iconic falls.
End the day at the legendary Hotel Ullensvang, a fjordside gem with roots back to 1846.
Get ready for a full day outdoors with Trolltunga Active – I recommend the Valley of waterfalls E- Bike Tour, which takes you through a lush valley past four powerful waterfalls.
Unwind in the spa or fjord garden at Ullensvang when you're back.
Start early and fly across the valley with the Trolltunga Zipline – the views from above are unreal.
Then make your way to Hotel Sundal, a soulful family-run hotel from 1889, known for its cozy vibes, fresh food, and deep local roots.
Ease into the day with a quiet walk to the magical Bondhusvatnet. Just remember, it's a drinking water source – no swimming.
Later, head up to Folgefonna Husky Camp for an evening with friendly huskies and a golden mountain sunset. Here you literally sleep on top of a glacier.
Today’s highlight: a Blue Ice Hike with Folgefonni Breførarlag – walking on the glacier is one of the most surreal and unforgettable things you can do in Norway.
In the evening, relax at Thon Hotel Sandven, a charming historic hotel in Norheimsund.
End your trip with a RIB boat adventure to Botnen. If you’re still feeling strong, hike to Kiellandbu for one last breathtaking view.
On the way back, swing by Steinsdalsfossen – you can actually walk behind the waterfall!
This route is Hardanger at its very best: dramatic fjords, glaciers, epic hikes, and truly unforgettable stays.
