The Urnes Stave Church, located so beautifully at Ornes on the Lustrafjorden in Luster, Norway is a marvel of medieval architecture. Dating back to 1130, this wooden structure is said to be the oldest of its kind, and takes its pilgrims back in time with its timeless beauty that is far beyond compare. With its traditional cylindrical columns, semi-circular arches, and wall planks adorned with Viking-era decorations, the Urnes Stave Church provides a unique insight into the transition from paganism to Christianity in the 12th century. Described by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1979, it is an absolute must-see for anyone visiting Norway today.
