Wander around this historic town which gives a sense of Tassie's convict history.

Ross is a tiny, perfectly preserved Georgian village on the Midland Highway, ideal as a quick stop between Hobart and Launceston. The highlight is the convict-era sandstone bridge with its carved faces and a pleasant riverside stroll; beyond that you’ll find a bakery, a couple of cafés and a small local museum, so plan on 20 to 60 minutes unless you want to overnight in a village B&B or the inn. Services are limited and can close early, so bring layers for changeable weather, comfortable shoes for cobbles and narrow streets, and be prepared to pay with either card or cash at the smaller shops.
