At many popular tourist locations, you now have to pay to enter/pay for parking.

Avoiding it can be sometimes tricky, as there're usually not other parking places nearby and parking next to the road can be punished as off-road driving.

Paying for it is usually pretty straight forward, though and in most cases you can pay using Parka or EasyPark app, however few of them are using their own payment methods. (see below)

Here's a list of all places in the country that currently charge for parking.

These are prices for 5 passenger cars. The price increases with the size of the vehicle.

South Iceland

  • Gluggafoss waterfall – 1000 ISK via Parka

  • Þingvellir NP - 1000 ISK via checkit.or /on site

  • Skógafoss - 1000 ISK via Parka

  • The Diamond Beach – 1000 ISK via Parka

  • Fagradalsfjall Volcano – 1000 ISK via Parka

  • Sólheimasandur (plane wreck) – 750 ISK via Parka

  • DC-3 Plane Wreck – 1000 ISK via Parka

  • Reynisfjara – 750-1000 ISK via Parka

  • Sólheimajökull glacier – 750 ISK via Parka

  • Skaftafell – 1000 ISK via Parka

  • Seljalandsfoss – 1000 ISK via ticket machines or checkit.is

  • Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon – 1000 ISK via Parka

  • Jökulsárlón (The Glacier Lagoon) – 1000 ISK via Parka

  • Hjörleifshöfði (the Yoda Cave) – 1000 ISK via EasyPark

  • Kvernufoss waterfall – 750 ISK via Parka

  • Brúarhlöð - 1000 ISK via Parka

  • Dyrhólaye - 750 ISK via Parka

  • Faxarfoss - 900 ISK at the entrance

  • Reykjadalur - 200 ISK (1hr) + 250 ISK/hour after that via EasyPark

  • Brúarárfoss - 750 ISK via Parka

  • Kerið - 600 ISK - pay at kiosk

  • Geyser - 1000 ISK via Parka

  • Krýsuvík - 750 ISK via Parka

  • Urriðafoss - 750 ISK via Parka

West Iceland

  • Ytri-Tunga – 650 ISK via checkit.is

  • Kirkjufellsfoss – 700-1000 ISK via EasyPark

  • Glanni waterfall - 1000 ISK via Parka

North Iceland

  • Illugastaðir – 1000 ISK via Parka

  • Hverir Geothermal Area – 1200 ISK via EasyPark

  • Hverfjall crater – 1000 ISK via Parka

  • Reykjafoss/Fosslaug - 1500 ISK (honesty box, staff with a terminal)

  • Krafla (Víti) - 800 ISK via EasyPark

  • Leirhnúkur - 800 ISK via EasyPark

Westfjords

  • Dynjandi – 750 ISK via QR code (on signs at the location) or ust.is

  • Bolafjall - 1000 ISK via Parka

East Iceland

  • Hengifoss – 1000 ISK via checkit.is

  • Stokksnes (Vestrahorn beach) – 1000 ISK (pay at the Viking Cafe)

  • Hafnarhólmi - 1000 ISK via checkit.is 

  • Stuðlagil Canyon (East) - 1000 ISK via Parka

  • Stuðlagil Canyon (West) - 1000 ISK via Parka or terminal

Highlands

  • Landmannalaugar – 1200 ISK

Few things to note:

Many of these places are known to charge additional fees of 5000 ISK or more if you fail to pay upon arrival.

When paying through the apps, there's usually 86 ISK fee on top of the price.
