My TIP

Allow plenty of time to visit Old Town Square. There is so much to see here. I also recommend sitting here in one of the many restaurants for at least a coffee and watch the hustle and bustle of the city.

Explore The Old Town Square

Old Town Square, also known as Staroměstské náměstí in Czech, is a historic square located in Prague's Old Town quarter. It's like a time capsule of different architectural styles, with Gothic churches and Baroque buildings dotting the area. You can't miss the iconic Prague Orloj, a medieval astronomical clock that's been ticking since 1410. Plus, there's a statue of Jan Hus, a religious reformer, right in the center. During Christmas and Easter, the square transforms into a magical market straight out of a fairy tale. It's a must-visit spot for history buffs and holiday enthusiasts alike!

Interesting fact

On Old Town Square, you'll find 27 white crosses embedded in the cobblestones near the Prague Astronomical Clock, marking the spot where 27 Czech lords were executed on June 21, 1621, following the Battle of White Mountain, as a grim reminder of the brutal aftermath of the Thirty Years' War and its impact on Czech history.
