Hraunfossar ("Lava Falls" in English) is a series of beautiful waterfalls located in West Iceland near Barnafoss. These falls pour into the Hvítá river from ledges of lava formed as an eruption from one of the nearby volcanoes beneath the Langjökull glacier, making them only a thousand years old. There are hidden caves throughout this area and, according to legend, it was once home to trolls. Near Hraunfossar is the impressive Barnafoss waterfall, known for its turbulent rapids with a tragic legend associated with it. Both historical and mythological attractions surround this amazing natural wonder, making it an ideal destination to explore while visiting Iceland!
