The Campanone, also known as the Civic Tower, is the tallest tower in Bergamo's Piazza Vecchia, offering a stunning view of the old city. It was built in the 12th century for defense and prestige, nowadays it houses the largest bell in Lombardy. Every evening at 10 pm, the bell rings 100 times, which is a reminder of the city's Venetian past and it was when the gates of the city were closed.
The Civic Tower is 52 metres tall and from here you can see some iconic buildings like the Cathedral of Bergamo, Colleoni Chapel and the municipality. It's possible to climb the tower, about 230 steps, or you can use the elevator.
It's opened Tuesday to Sunday and the ticket is €5, which includes also the "Palazzo del Podestà"
