This has got to be our favourite spot in the North! Putaruru Blue Spring doesn't feel real. The Blue Spring is famous for its crystal-clear, vibrant blue waters. Fed by an underground aquifer, the spring maintains an almost magical clarity year-round! 💧

The Putaruru Springs (Te Waihou Walkway) takes about 1 to 1.5 hours one way or 2.5-3 hours return for the full 4.7km (10km return) track from the main Whites Road entrance. We honestly didn't do the full walk, and you don't need to, as there are multiple viewpoints just as nice! A shorter 15-minute walk (each way) is available from the Leslie Road entrance to the Blue Spring for quick access to the famous spring. The track is generally easy, with some boardwalks, stiles, and gentle hills, offering beautiful views of the crystal-clear Blue Spring and Waihou River.

The Blue Spring is a natural taonga (treasure) formed through the special and delicate merger of geology, ecology, freshwater biology and geography, over many hundreds of thousands of years 🩵
