Whitby Abbey, a 7th-century Christian monastery turned Benedictine abbey, perched on the East Cliff above Whitby in North Yorkshire, England. Founded by King Oswy and later rebuilt by Reinfrid, it thrived as a center of learning until Henry VIII's Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1540. The ruins, now cared for by English Heritage, have become a landmark for sailors and a popular tourist attraction. It even has ties to Bram Stoker's Dracula!
