Lake Saroma, also known as Saroma Lagoon, is a coastal lagoon located in Hokkaido, Japan. It's the third largest lake in Japan and the biggest in Hokkaido. The name comes from the Ainu place name Saruomahetsu, which means "place of many Miscanthus reeds and rushes." With a surface area of 150 square kilometers and an average depth of 8.7 meters, Lake Saroma is a popular spot for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts to explore its scenic beauty and diverse wildlife. Especially, the sunrise on the ocean and stars at night are breathtaking! You can stay over night in a free camping site, Kimuaneppu Cape Camping Ground.
