Huaca Pucllana is a massive adobe pyramid built by the Lima culture around 400 AD, which is centuries before the Incas! It served as a ceremonial and administrative center, and archaeologists are still uncovering its secrets today. What makes it so unique is its location: right in the middle of Miraflores, surrounded by modern high-rises.

For us, stumbling on Huaca Pucllana was one of the coolest surprises in Lima. It felt surreal to walk past sleek buildings and suddenly see this ancient structure rising from the desert soil. You can only explore with a guided tour (included in your ticket), but we found that added so much context to what we were seeing. There’s also a small museum on-site to visit while waiting.

Pro Tip: Don’t skip the restaurant here. Normally, tourist-site restaurants are overpriced and underwhelming, but this one came recommended by locals and it lived up to the hype. You can try traditional Peruvian dishes and desserts while overlooking the ruins lit up at night. One of the best meals in Lima.
