Crathes Castle, located in the small Deeside town of Crathes is a stunning example of 16th-century architecture. The castle has a long history and the family’s roots in Aberdeenshire date back to 1323 when Robert the Bruce granted them nearby land. He is also said to have gifted them the Horn of Leys, which takes pride of place over the fireplace in the castle’s Great Hall. On a paranormal note, Crathes also has its own legendary ghost, the Green Lady, who is said to have been sighted occasionally over the centuries.

Outside the castle is surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens and sprawling estate grounds, it offers visitors a glimpse into Scotland's rich history and heritage.

The gardens are a real highlight, first planted in the 1700's showcases a variety of plants and flowers. The area also is blessed with local wildlife including red squirrel, woodpeckers and herons.

On the grounds there is also a National Trust run cafe and small play park area.
Castle entry is £17 per person, unless you have a National Trust card then it is free.
