Sensō-ji is an ancient Buddhist temple located in Asakusa, Tokyo, Japan. It is Tokyo's oldest temple and one of its most significant sites with over 30 million visitors each year. Visitors will be excited to experience the traditional shops on the Nakamise-dōri street leading up to the Kaminarimon, or "Thunder Gate," entrance. Two towering statues of Fūjin and Raijin, the gods of wind and thunder - as well as the iconic red-and-black paper lantern housed beneath the gate - are a must-see for first-time visitors. Behind the Kaminarimon is the Hōzōmon, or "Treasure House Gate" which leads to the inner complex of buildings housing the five-story pagoda and main hall devoted to Kannon, the bodhisattva of compassion. Last but not least, there is a contemplative garden inside offering a quiet respite from the hustle and bustle of city life.
