You can't visit Ubud without making a trip to these famous rice terraces. Whilst Bali has many rice fields all over the island, these would seem to be the most dramatic and picturesque. Following the road north from Ubud it takes about 20 minutes to reach Tegallalang.

There are many access points to the terraces with locals capitalizing on the tourism in some areas. That said there are plenty of more secluded paths down into the fields. These are active rice fields so whilst tourists are welcome, you are encouraged to leave donations at the entrances to each farmers plot to support their livelihoods.

Sunrise is the best time to go to enjoy the area peacefully although the skies can be filled with the sounds of drones! (Guilty...) When the sun peaks over the ridge it's really a rather special place to be.
