The Waterfall Creek Track is an easy walk that offers some of the best views around Lake Wānaka. It starts from the western end of Roys Bay and leads you to Wānaka Station Park, which is a lovely spot to stop for a picnic. From there, the trail meanders along the lakefront and past the iconic Wānaka tree - stop here! It’s one of the most photographed locations in New Zealand.
As you continue, you’ll pass by Edgewater and the knock-your-socks-off beautiful Rippon Vineyard, where you can pop in for a free wine tasting. Then, the track eventually leads to Waterfall Creek, which has gorgeous views of Ruby Island.
The Waterfall Creek Track is nice and short, about 1 hour to complete, and only 2.5 km long, so it’s super accessible for families and anyone with a pushchair. If you want to keep walking, you can continue onto Glendhu Bay along the Glendhu Bay Track. This long (3-4 hour) one-way trail is harder than the Waterfall Track. But the beauty is that you don’t have to go the full distance and can walk for as long as you choose!
