Tokomaru Bay is a picture-perfect coastal town just 1.5 hours from the centre of Gisborne. We drove through Tokomaru Bay on our East Cape road trip and if you're visiting, I recommend stopping at Café 35, where you’ll find the legendary pāua pie. Pāua is similar to abalone and is a delicacy in New Zealand. While it’s an acquired taste, I think it’s something every foodie should try at least once, and this cafe has earned a reputation for selling one of the best pies in the country!
