Lumsden is a beautiful town about an hour north of Invercargill and an hour south of Queenstown.

It sits at the elbow of the Oreti River and is mostly used as a stopover for some of the country's best cycle routes. If you love cycling, have a look into the Around the Mountains Cycle Trail which winds through high country farms, lakes, rivers and stunning Northern Southland scenery.

However, the reason I love coming here is because the fuel is usually some of the cheapest in the country! If you’re heading from Queenstown to Milford Sound or travelling the other way, I highly recommend stopping here to fill up your car. You can also pop over to nearby Mossburn, which offers similarly great fuel prices
