Farlie is a must-visit stop on your drive from Christchurch and Mount Cook, and it’s all because of one thing—pies. New Zealand's bakery culture is something you need to see to believe. We are pastry, sweet treat and pie mad, and the Fairlie Bakehouse on Main Street is famous for making some of the best pies in New Zealand.

Their mince and cheese pie is a classic, and the pork belly pie, packed with rich, slow-cooked chunks of pork, is a crowd favourite. If pies aren’t your thing, they also have freshly baked cakes, sandwiches, and coffee.

One thing I noticed about their pies is that they have HUGE chunks of meat and are much more "meal-like" than other pies. I'm not convinced they're the best in the country (I'm still a Kerikeri Bakehouse snob), but they are very good and worth trying on your way through!
