There’s no other way to say it: visiting Ōkahu (Jackson Bay) feels like standing on the very edge of the world.

The drive here is just as good as the destination, with jaw-dropping coastal views, classic West Coast rainforest and some of New Zealand’s rarest wildlife.

No visit to Jackson Bay is complete without a meal at The Cray Pot. The quirky little diner serves up some of the freshest kaimoana (seafood) you’ll find in Aotearoa, including crayfish.

If you’re road-tripping with a campervan, you’ll also find freedom camping spots at the end of the beach and wake up to the sound of the waves in one of the most remote corners of the South Island.
