If you love cheese (let's be honest, who doesn't?) Barrys Bay Cheese is a must-visit on your way through Banks Peninsula.

They’ve been handcrafting delicious morsels since 1895. While a lot has changed since then (including rebuilding after a fire in 1952), their commitment to quality, tradition, and incredible flavour has stayed the same.

Barrys Bay creates a mouthwatering selection of cheeses using grass-fed cow’s milk and locally sourced ingredients. Their selection ranges from classic English cheddars to creamy Havarti and the ever-popular Peninsula Blue. Their aged cumin gouda won the Champion Dutch Style Cheese award at the 2018 NZ Cheese Awards. You’re in for something special.

They’re open seven days a week and offer tastings (immediately my ears are pricked!).
