Incredible jagged pinnacles of clay

Omarama Clay Cliffs are one of the most unique destinations in New Zealand. These towering, jagged pinnacles look completely out of place next to the alpine landscapes of Mount Cook National Park! These dramatic formations were shaped by ancient glaciers over a million years ago, creating a maze of narrow ravines and layered clay.

The cliffs are on private land, so bring $5 for the vehicle admission fee. This allows you to drive on the farmer's land and can be paid at the donation box by the gate.

Once you've parked, it's a 15-minute easy walk from the carpark into the cliffs.
