Mirror Lakes are world famous for their jaw-dropping reflections of the surrounding mountains. Located within Eglington Valley, this is one of the many viewpoints along the Milford Road in Fiordland National Park. They're most beautiful on a calm, clear day as you'll see the Earl mountains reflected in the lake. However, I recommend stopping even if the weather isn’t on your side.

One of the reasons Mirror Lakes are so popular is that they're very easy to reach. From the carpark, head left until you reach a well-maintained board walk leading through native forest. The walk is about 400m long and takes around 5 minutes one-way. Once you reach the end of the track, you'll find a viewing platform with information about the area and how the lakes were created.

I found the views here mesmerising and stopping was one of the highlights of our trip to Milford Sound, especially after a couple of hours cooped up in the car!

How to get there

The lakes are located on the left-hand side of the road as you drive towards Milford Sound from Te Anau. It’s well-signposted, and there’s a small car park with enough space for cars and campervans.
