Delicious is the only word I can use to describe Makana. Actually, that's a lie. I have a very long list of words I could use to tell you how much I love it here. Makana is a boutique chocolate factory, and stepping inside feels like being whisked away into a scene from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

They have two stores in New Zealand: one in Kerikeri and the other in Blenheim. While I’ve yet to visit the Blenheim store, I’ve spent many an afternoon wandering through the Kerikeri shop, staring at all the treats they offer. Both locations are part shop and part factory, and you can watch the talented team whip up chocolates right before your eyes.

They sell a wide range of chocolates and truffles, but the STAR of the show is their Macadamia Butter Toffee Crunch. I don't know what they put in it (probably a boatload of sugar), but it's one of the most delicious things I've ever eaten.

It doesn't matter whether you're in Marlborough or the Bay of Islands, you MUST come here when you're in town.
