Rainbow Falls (Waianiwaniwa) in Kerikeri is a stunning 27-meter waterfall and a must-visit when you're in the Bay of Islands. It's my favourite waterfall in Northland. When you arrive, you'll find multiple viewpoints and an easy walking track down to the base of the falls. If you're visiting in the summer, you'll find lots of people swimming or exploring around the rocks.

Because Rainbow Falls is so easy to reach, many people don't spend long here. However, I recommend walking from Rainbow Falls to the Stone Store if you have time. This is an 8 km return track along the Kerikeri River. It’s almost completely flat, winds through beautiful bush, and feels like you're miles away from the rest of the world!

At the end, you’ll find the historic Stone Store, New Zealand’s oldest stone building, and a lovely riverside café perfect for a coffee and a snack. It's well worth the walk, and a great way to turn your quick trip into a whole morning out.
