  • Cape Egmont Lighthouse sits next to the wild, rugged coastline of Taranaki and was one of my favourite stops when we drove along Surf Highway 45.

  • It’s tucked away on the westernmost point of the region, and while Cape Egmont Lighthouse is not a huge tourist attraction, it’s absolutely worth the detour! You can’t go inside, but the views are stunning, and if you visit on a clear day, you’ll see Taranaki Maunga rising up behind it.

  • How to get there

  • From the main road, turn off onto Cape Road and follow it for about 5km until you reach the end. There’s a small amount of parking at the end of the road, and it's a short walk to the lighthouse itself. I’ve never been here for sunset, but I would love to come back and bring our dinner here one day.
