Oamaru is easily one of the most unique towns in New Zealand. It's packed with Victorian architecture, history, wildlife and coastline.
Things to do in Oamaru
Harbour Street is one of the most photographed streets in the country, where grand old buildings make you feel like you’ve stepped back into 1800s England.
Oamaru has a stunning harbour, a beautiful beach, and is home to the famous Oamaru Blue Penguin Colony, where you can watch the world’s smallest penguins waddle across the shore at sunset.
If you love hiking, there are some scenic tracks in the hills above the town which will give you epic views over the coastline.
Other things to do around the town include visiting Steampunk HQ (a must-visit on your trip!)
Or you could travel out of your own to places like Kakanui (one of the best beaches in the region) or Moeraki Boulders on the way down south to Dunedin.
There are plenty of places to stay in and around Oamaru, and you’ll find enough bars, breweries, cafes and restaurants to keep you busy for a very, very long time!
