Located next to Mrs Woolly's Campground (my favourite place to stay in Glenorchy) is Mrs Woolly's General Store.
I felt like I’d stepped foot in my version of Disneyland. Homemade sweet treats, barista-made coffee, local produce, trinkets, outdoor apparel, and every kind of souvenir (the unique, made-in-New Zealand kind) you can think of lined the walls.
On their website, Mrs Woolly's boasts they’re “more than just a place to shop; it’s a slice of New Zealand’s soul”. Usually, I’d call someone out for a line like that. However, in this case, I’ve got to admit that they’re bang on the money. Shopping here felt more like an experience than a way to kill time. They even have a gallery space showcasing New Zealand artists, making it feel more like a slice of Kiwi culture than just a place to shop.
While you’re here, make sure to pick up something to eat. Their cabinet is jam-packed full of all different kinds of treats. If you want to try Fairlie Bakehouse pies (world-famous in NZ), now's your chance! If you’re visiting Glenorchy, I highly recommend staying at Mrs Woolly’s Campground and stopping by the store while you’re there.
