Cameron Flats is a DOC campsite in the Wānaka/Makarora area. It’s a lovely place to stay if you’re travelling between Wānaka and the West Coast and want to break up the drive with some extra exploring along the Haast Pass.

The campsite itself is set right next to the beautiful Makarora River, and if you love hiking, you’re spoiled for choice. There are tonnes of trails in the area, including Thunder Creek Falls and the famous Blue Pools Track, which is one of the most popular things to do in the South Island!

The campsite cannot be booked in advance, and sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. When you arrive, you need to pay your fees in cash at the self-registration stand.
