The Lost Gypsy Gallery is hands down one of the quirkiest places I’ve ever visited, and I loved every second of it.

If you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind experience in New Zealand, this is it.

Created by Blair Somerville, a self-described "organic mechanic," the gallery is filled with hundreds of automata you’re encouraged to play with. Blair repurposes discarded odds and ends like springs, circuit boards, vintage toys, camera parts, shells, and bicycle wheels to create little contraptions that move, spin, and surprise.

The gallery is split into two sections: the free-entry bus (which doubles as a café) and the paid exhibition space, which has even more intricate and mind-blowing inventions.

Stop here if you're in the area!
