Probably the most famous vineyard on Waiheke Island. I don’t know a single Aucklander who hasn’t been to, or at least heard of, Mudbrick.

Mudbrick is a must-do on your trip. It’s just a short drive from the ferry terminal, and while it might be tempting to make it your first stop, I actually recommend saving it for last and timing your visit with the sunset.

They’re known for their Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah, so there’s no shortage of incredible wine. They’re not cheap (some bottles go for around $150), and I've got to be honest, I'm not a wine fan. But I’ve got a very reliable source (hi, Dad) who swears by the Velvet 2021 (a Cab Sav blend) and Francesca 2021 (their flagship Chardonnay).

I still can’t decide if it’s the food, the views back to Auckland, or the grounds that make Mudbrick so special. There’s a beautiful dining area with an outdoor patio where you can settle in for lunch or dinner. If you’re not after a full meal, you should head up to the rooftop bar and enjoy a drink while watching the sunset.

Tip: If you’re planning to visit for a long lunch or dinner, I'd book as far in advance as possible. They fill up fast, especially in summer, on weekends and on public holidays.
