The Cape Foulwind Walkway is a walking track on the West Coast that should be on every South Island road trip itinerary. Located just an hour north of the famous Punakaiki Pancake Rocks and along the scenic route between Nelson and the West Coast, it’s an easy detour that doesn’t require straying too far from your path.

This short walk offers out-of-this-world bang for your buck. You’ll be treated to stunning views over the coastline, a historic lighthouse, and a blend of rugged cliffs, mountains, and endless ocean. But the real highlight is a colony of fur seals that call this place home. While seals are well-known in Kaikoura, fewer people know about the ones living near Westport, making this extra special.
