Picton is a gorgeous little town on the north coast of the South Island and the gateway to the Marlborough Sounds.

Most people visit Picton as they travel between the North and South Islands on the ferry or to hike the Queen Charlotte Track, which is one of the best multi-day hikes in New Zealand. If you don't have time for the whole track, I highly recommend the Snout Track Loop. This is an easy/moderate 10km return trail with stunning views over the Sounds.

You'll also find cute cafés, bakeries, and boutiques that sell locally made art and produce. When you get hungry, beeline to Toastie Lords!

Accommodation

Momorangi DOC Campsite is cheap, gorgeous and right by the water. Otherwise, if you're catching an early morning ferry to Wellington, Parklands Marina Holiday Park is just a few minutes from the ferry terminal.
